Woodward Music

Welcome to our Woodward School Music Webpage!

My name is Joanne Geeze, and I have been teaching in Southborough for nineteen years. Prior to Southborough, I taught music in Sutton, Oxford, Norwell, and at the Joy of Music Program in Worcester. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Houghton University in Western NY and my Master of Education: Curriculum and Instruction-Creative Arts in Learning, from Lesley University. Music has been a part of my life since the day I was born, and it is my pleasure to share this joy with my young students! When I am not teaching, I enjoy doing anything creative, as well as playing with my four little grandkiddos.

Third Grade Recorders

In the Third Grade, each student will receive a recorder. These recorders will be kept at school throughout the school year, and they will go home after our Memorial Day Program in May.  So, you don't need to provide a recorder for school.  However, if your child would like a second recorder to keep at home, more details will be forthcoming in the mid-Fall for anyone interested in purchasing an extra.

All school recorders will be kept in their own individual cases, labeled clearly with students' names, and stored safely in the Music Room throughout the school year.

We will be learning our recorder songs as part of our General Music curriculum, so there's no need to sign up for anything!

Get ready for some fun!

A Few of my Favorite Quotes

Dallas Symphony Orchestra website for Kids

The Arts have "the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else."  -SG Clemens

You don't have to be perfect to be amazing.

"Go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable.  Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend,  even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward.                                   You will have created something." -K Vonnegut

At Woodward School, we experience music through singing, playing instruments, moving purposefully, listening and creating.
