Another Great Week at Woodward

We had another great week at school! It has been wonderful to see our students engaged in their learning, connecting with classmates and staff, and settling into the routines of the school year. As we head into the coming weeks, we have several exciting events on the horizon that will bring our students, families, and school community together.

We are excited to kick off fundraising for our annual Color Run, one of our favorite school traditions! We are also looking forward to International Walk to School Day, which will mark the start of our fall Walking School Bus. More information about the Walking School Bus can be found below. Color Run fundraising information, including details about the event and how families can participate, will be sent home on Monday. Please be sure to check your student’s backpack on Monday afternoon for these materials.

As a reminder, parents and guardians who would like to participate in these events or volunteer at school must have current CORI and SORI checks completed through the main office. If you are unsure of your status, please call the main office, and we will be happy to double-check for you. We encourage families to take care of this ahead of time so you are ready to join us for the many fun activities and events planned throughout the year.

Thank you for another wonderful week and for your continued partnership and support. Have a great weekend!

Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and it's a cause close to all of our hearts here at school. Every child deserves to feel safe, and respected, both in our hallways and beyond. This month, our students are exploring what it means to be an upstander, not a bystander, and practicing the courage it takes to speak kindly and include others. We encourage families to open conversations at home about what bullying looks like, how it feels, and what your child can do if they ever witness or experience it. Together, we can build a community where every student knows they belong.

Pokémon Cards: Fun at Home, Not at School

We know Pokémon cards are a lot of fun and that many of our students enjoy collecting and trading them! However, when cards come to school, they can sometimes be lost, misplaced, or traded, which can lead to disagreements and hurt feelings. To help us keep the focus on learning and avoid these challenges, please have students keep their Pokémon cards at home. Thank you for your help and support!

Spotlight on Specials- Art with Mrs. Foy

Hello from art! Our paintbrushes have been dancing, and markers have been moving as we have been learning about our first element of art, “lines.” We have taken our line study a step further by connecting it to learning about each other. Grade two used warm colors to paint their charts, while grade 3 used cool colors for their arrays. Each line pattern represents something about the artist. All artists continued their line study by looking at the art of Vandinsky’s Concentric Circles. Grade two created concentric circles with oil pastels and connected them to the story of, The Dot by Peter Reynolds, while grade three studied sculpture and created a Concentric Circle Mobile Sculpture. All of these lessons have been coupled with learning art room routines!

A Message From The Nurses Office

Walking School Bus Kick Off
Woodward School runs a WALKING SCHOOL BUS program on Friday mornings in the fall and spring. Some might be asking, " What is a walking school bus?" A walking school bus organizes school staff, parents, and students to walk together from a designated area to school. It brings families and friends together to be active, socialize, and have FUN!

We are happy to announce the Woodward Walking School Bus will begin on Friday, October 2nd!

How does the Walking School Bus Work?
  • The Walking School Bus follows a designated route to school, with scheduled “bus stops” along the way. Students should wait with an adult at their selected stop until the group arrives.
  • School staff and parent volunteers, wearing bright yellow safety vests, will lead the group and pick up students at each stop. Parents, guardians, and siblings are welcome to join the walk—no pets, please.
  • Parent volunteers are essential to the success of the Walking School Bus. If you are able, please consider walking with your child and joining the group.
  • If the Walking School Bus is canceled due to weather, families will be notified through ParentSquare.

Our Walking school bus makes the following stops:
8:10 East Main St/ Overlook Dr
8:13 Walker St/Upland Rd
8:15 St. Anne’s parking lot (20 Boston Rd)
8:20 Main St/ Boston Road
