Meet Archie the Therapy Dog!

Dear Woodward Parents and Guardians,
I am writing to share some exciting news with our Woodward community. One of our staff members, Mrs. Beth Murphy, and her dog Archie are a certified therapy dog team.

Our district has a strong connection with Bright Spot Therapy Dogs. Michelle Karb, Principal of Melican Middle School, has been involved with Bright Spot for over 10 years and now serves as its Executive Director. She also supports our district as a trainer for therapy dog teams and has helped bring certified therapy dogs into each of our schools.

Mrs. Murphy and Archie have completed an extensive training process through Bright Spot Therapy Dogs. This included basic obedience, therapy dog certification, and six months of supervised training in public settings. Archie has also received all required medical clearances and is up to date on vaccinations.

Archie will spend most of his time with Mrs. Murphy as part of her regular schedule, but there may also be opportunities for students to interact with him in small groups, in the hallways, or in the main office.
We understand that some students may have allergies or may not feel comfortable around dogs. Archie is a doodle breed and considered hypoallergenic; however, if your child has an allergy or a concern, please reach out to Nurse Kiley or your child’s teacher so we can put a plan in place to ensure their comfort.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Kiley or me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Mucci

Our First Week is in the Books

We had a wonderful first week of school! Our focus was on introducing and teaching classroom and school routines, giving students a strong foundation for the year ahead. Just as importantly, we spent time building community, helping students settle in and feel connected to their classmates and teachers. We also kicked off the year with our first CARE assembly, a great way to bring students together around the values that guide us as a school. It was a great start, and we're looking forward to all that's ahead.

Today we had our first safety drill of the year- a scheduled fire drill. Students did a great job exiting the building quickly and quietly and following the adults' directions.

Here is a picture from Mrs. Lehane's class, showing off their new "glasses"!

Labor Day

This Monday, we celebrate Labor Day, a national holiday dedicated to honoring the workers who have built and sustained our country throughout history. Labor Day is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about the value of hard work, fairness, and community.  It is also an opportunity to appreciate the many people whose everyday efforts make our lives better. We hope your family enjoys a safe and restful long weekend, and we look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday!

SOS Family Picnic- Save the Date

On Friday, September 11th, Woodward SOS will host our annual Welcome Back Picnic, and it's always a wonderful way to kick off the school year! Families will have the chance to reconnect, and students will enjoy catching up with friends, playing on the playground, and getting their faces painted. Keep an eye out for the pizza and ice cream trucks, a favorite with kids and adults alike. Thank you in advance to the SOS for organizing this fun community event. We can't wait to see everyone there!
