Principal's Message

Based on the positive feedback from our Woodward Principal Coffee on the Eureka Math² curriculum, two additional evening information sessions were scheduled across the district. These sessions will give families another opportunity to learn more about the program and how to support their child’s math learning at home. The next session is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, from 6:00-7:00 in the Lincoln Street School Library. This is for families in both Northborough and Southborough.

Welcome Back!
We hope you all enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break and had the chance to celebrate the holiday with friends and family. As we ease back into our school routines, this is a great time to reestablish strong habits at home—consistent bedtimes, morning routines, and organized school materials help students feel ready and confident each day.

A reminder about the importance of regular school attendance: consistent school attendance supports academic growth, strengthens skills, and helps students stay connected to their classroom community.

As the weather continues to get colder, please ensure students come to school dressed appropriately for the conditions. Coats, hats, gloves, and sturdy footwear help keep everyone comfortable during recess and arrival/dismissal times. Please note- the office is unable to call families if snow gear is left or forgotten at home.

We’re excited to have our students back and look forward to a wonderful few weeks of learning ahead!

Important Attendance Notice
This week, attendance letters will be sent home to students who have six or more absences, which equals 10% of the school year missed. These reports are generated based on total absences. We understand that many absences are related to illness, appointments, or religious observances.

Please know that these letters are informational only, and no action is required. If we can support your student in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Donna Bradley (School Psychologist), Jennie Bogaert (Behavior Specialist), or Steve Mucci (Principal).

Grade 2 STEM Fun!

Last week, our second graders participated in an exciting STEM session led by Brady Loomer, STEM Outreach Lead Coordinator for the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center, and Southborough parent. This visit was for the classes that did not participate on Tuesday, November 18th.

For the third consecutive year, Mr. Loomer introduced students to the role that parachutes play in delivering essential supplies during natural disasters. Students then took on a hands-on STEM challenge—designing and testing their own parachutes using the engineering design process.

We were thrilled to welcome Mr. Loomer back to Woodward and grateful for his fun and engaging STEM lesson!

This meeting will be a joyful and welcoming gathering as we:
 ✨
Learn about Holidays Around the World through our conversations
 🍕 Enjoy pizza together
🧸 Provide free babysitting for children
🏀 Welcome Northborough Recreation to share programs and opportunities for families
🤝 And we are also working to welcome
Southborough Recreation to join us as well!

If you’d like, you are welcome to bring a small snack or treat to share, especially something that represents your family’s traditions, but this is completely optional.

ELPAC is a space for multilingual families to connect, share ideas, and learn about community resources that support our students and families. We would love to see you there.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
We look forward to spending the evening with you!

Warmly,
ELPAC Leadership Team
The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough.

Author Visit

Woodward students were thrilled to welcome back former Woodward teacher—and now children’s book author—Amy Benford! Mrs. Benford shared her brand-new book, Oh No, Tilly, and took students behind the scenes of the writing process, from the spark of an idea to a finished story.

The highlight of the visit? Tilly herself! Mrs. Benford brought her lovable Labradoodle so students could meet the real-life inspiration for the book’s main character. With wagging tails, big smiles, and lots of laughs, it was a joyful visit filled with creativity, storytelling, and one very popular pup.

We’re grateful to Mrs. Benford for spending the day with us and inspiring a new generation of writers at Woodward!

Important Update From Parent Square- Streamlining Notifications for Posts

We're excited to announce an improvement to how you receive notifications for posts from our school. Soon, if you use the ParentSquare app and have both app and text notifications turned on, you'll receive post notifications through the app, with text notifications sent only as a backup when needed. This smart delivery system will simplify and streamline how you receive your school communications.

What's changing?

Currently, you might receive duplicate notifications for posts via both the app and text message.

With this update:

  • App-first delivery, with text as a fallback: When a post is shared, you'll receive a notification through the app first, with a text notification as a backup only if needed. This applies to posts, post digests, and updates to posts.

  • No change for time-sensitive messages: Direct Messages and alerts will continue to be delivered via your preferred methods.

Why it’s changing

This change streamlines how you receive post notifications. By reducing the number of notifications sent to your device for each post, it will be easier for you to keep track of school updates in one place.

What do you need to do?

No action is required from your side! If you already use the app and have both app and text notifications turned on, you'll automatically benefit from this smart notification delivery.

If you haven’t downloaded the ParentSquare app or turned on app notifications, now is a great time to do so. This gives you the best way to access and customize classroom communications on your mobile device.

To learn more about this change, see ParentSquare's Help Article.
