Hello Summer!

As the school year comes to a close, I want to thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support. It has been a true joy to watch your children grow, academically, socially, and emotionally, within our second and third-grade community.

This time of year brings a mix of excitement and emotion. Our second graders are eager to step into leadership roles next year, while our third graders prepare for the important transition to Neary School. Whether your child is moving to a new grade, a new school, or simply into the rhythm of summer, we’re here to support them every step of the way.

We’ve seen tremendous growth in our students this year. Their curiosity, kindness, and resilience continue to inspire us, and I’m incredibly proud of the learning community we’ve built together. None of this would be possible without our dedicated staff and engaged families—thank you.

As summer begins, I hope your days are filled with rest, play, reading, and time with loved ones. Thank you for being a vital part of our school community. Wishing you a safe, joyful, and restorative summer!

Field Day Fun!

We had a fantastic Field Day on Friday, June 13th, which included community presenters such as the Southborough Fire Department and other local partners. Our end-of-year celebrations also featured a summer reading challenge, a schoolwide book swap, and our much-anticipated closing ceremony, complete with a dunk tank, always a student favorite!

Southborough's Finest Serving the Woodward Community

This week, Woodward students enjoyed a special visit from the Southborough Police Department! Officers joined us in the cafeteria to serve lunch and spend time connecting with students. Their presence sparked smiles, conversations, and lots of excitement. We’re grateful for their continued partnership and for taking the time to build positive relationships with our school community.

Creating a Culture of Belonging

This week, our second graders visited third-grade classrooms and learned all about what next year will bring. They also had a chance to get to know our third-grade teachers a little better.

For our final enrichment of the year, third graders read Last Day Blues by Julie Danneberg, part of the popular Jitters Series many of our students know and love. In the story, Mrs. Hartwell’s students worry that their teacher will miss them too much over the summer, so they come up with a plan to cheer her up. But Mrs. Hartwell reassures them that, like her students, she also has exciting summer plans.

After reading, students had the opportunity to share what they’re most looking forward to this summer as they prepare to transition to Neary School.

Third-grade classes also wrote letters titled, “What I Will Miss Most About My Teacher Is…” These heartfelt messages were collected and given to their teachers as a special end-of-year gift.

Looking Ahead to 2025–2026: Changes to Our School Community
As we plan for the upcoming school year, we’d like to share a few staffing updates based on enrollment and program growth:
  • Mrs. Guccione will be moving from second grade to third grade.
  • Mrs. Foy will also transition from second grade to third grade.
  • Señora Hughes will split her time between Neary School and Woodward, helping expand the Spanish program to include fourth grade.
  • Mrs. Wagoner will split her time between Finn School and Woodward, supporting both communities.
We’re excited for these changes and the continued growth of our school community and, more importantly, our students!
