Celebrating Southborough's Seniors
Last Friday, Southborough’s graduating seniors returned to Woodward School for a special “Senior Stroll.” Former Woodward students walked the halls where they once attended second and third grade, greeted by cheering students and warm congratulations. Woodward students lined the hallways to celebrate the seniors’ milestone, and many seniors took the opportunity to snap photos with their favorite former teachers. It was a heartwarming celebration of how far they’ve come and a reminder of where it all began. Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors and their families. It will be our second and third graders before we know it!

LGBTQ+ Pride Month
Each June, communities across the country recognize LGBTQ+ Pride Month, honoring a pivotal moment in history—the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. This event began when individuals at the Stonewall Inn stood up against unfair treatment and discrimination, sparking a larger movement for LGBTQ+ rights. Pride Month is now a time to celebrate love, identity, and inclusion, with events like parades, gatherings, and educational programs taking place around the world. It’s a meaningful reminder of the importance of respect, acceptance, and equal rights for all.

Creating a Culture of Belonging
This month’s CARE theme is Transitions. In second grade, we explored what the word means and shared examples of the many transitions students experience each day—from small ones like walking to the cafeteria, to bigger ones like moving on to the next grade.
We read What Will You Be? by Yamile Saied Méndez, a story about a young girl imagining her future. With help from her grandmother, she realizes that while her options will grow, one thing will stay the same—she’ll always be herself. The book ends with her powerful declaration: “I will be ME!”
This inspired a class discussion about what will stay the same and what will change as they move from second to third grade. Together, we created a Venn diagram to compare and contrast their current and future grades. Students also had the chance to share questions, excitement, and any concerns. At home, we encourage you to continue the conversation.

Third Grade Enrichment With SBoro Fire Department
On Thursday, third graders enjoyed their final Enrichment program of the year, presented by the Southborough Fire Department. It was an exciting and memorable experience as firefighters demonstrated how they connect hoses to both fire trucks and hydrants. One highlight was watching the powerful hose mounted on top of the truck spray a wide arc of water over the playground. On a hot day, students especially loved cooling off in the refreshing mist! A special thanks to the SFD and especially Lieutenant Doane for a great year of programming!

Looking Ahead to 2025–2026: Changes to Our School Community As we plan for the upcoming school year, we’d like to share a few staffing updates based on enrollment and program growth:
-
Mrs. Guccione will be moving from second grade to third grade.
-
Mrs. Foy will also transition from second grade to third grade.
-
Señora Hughes will split her time between Neary School and Woodward, helping expand the Spanish program to include fourth grade.
-
Mrs. Wagoner will split her time between Finn School and Woodward, supporting both communities.
We’re excited for these changes and the continued growth of our school community and, more importantly, our students! |
